1930s
Zomba School of Nursing

Our oldest institution, opening in 1930. The current structure was built in 1990 with World Bank support.

1960s
Medical Assistants Training School

Became operational in the 1960s, playing a crucial role in developing Malawi's early healthcare workforce.

1976
Lilongwe School Founded

Opened on July 12, 1976, with French Government funding for initial infrastructure.

1996
The Historic Merger

On June 21, 1996, the three institutions merged to form the Malawi College of Health Sciences.

Originally the Medical Auxiliary Training School. Expanded with support from Howard University and the World Bank PHN project.

Blantyre Campus

Est. 1960s

The current structure was built in 1996 with ADB funding. A critical developer of the nation's healthcare workforce.

Zomba School

Est. 1930

Generations of nurses have served throughout Malawi from this institution, establishing a legacy of compassionate care.

MCHS Today

An autonomous parastatal organisation continuing its legacy of excellence in health education.
